Natural gas (available via DEWA piped gas network in most Dubai areas) and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas via cylinders, common in Sharjah, Ajman and areas without piped gas) both present specific safety requirements in UAE properties. Gas leaks are rare in well-maintained systems but can be immediately dangerous when they occur. Characteristics of a gas leak: a distinct sulphur smell (added to the gas deliberately to make leaks detectable — natural gas and LPG are both odourless in their pure state); a hissing sound from pipe joints or connection points; unexplained flame patterns on a gas hob. If you smell gas: open all windows and doors; do not operate any electrical switch (this includes the light switch — the arc from a light switch can ignite accumulated gas); turn off the gas supply at the LPG cylinder or the DEWA gas meter; leave the property and call the gas emergency line and then our team from a safe distance outside.
UAE gas appliance connections require specific fittings. The standard UAE connection for gas hobs and ovens uses a compression fitting at the appliance gas point connected to a yellow or orange flexible gas hose (CSST or braided stainless) that connects to the rigid gas supply point in the wall or floor. This flexible hose has a defined service life of 5 years and should be replaced proactively. We inspect gas hose condition and replace any hose showing cracking, kinking or connection deterioration as part of gas system maintenance.
