Correct sequencing prevents paint damage: ceilings are painted first, then walls, then woodwork. This prevents ceiling paint from dripping onto finished wall paint. In UAE properties with gypsum false ceilings, the ceiling requires a specific alkali-resistant primer before the topcoat — gypsum is highly alkaline when new and requires sealing to prevent alkali from attacking the paint film and causing blistering. New gypsum ceilings (within 12 months of installation) must be primed with an appropriate alkali-resistant primer; we use Jotun Multiprimer or Dulux Alkali Resisting Primer as our standard application.
UAE interior paint specification depends on the room function. Bathroom and kitchen walls require a moisture-resistant formulation — we specify Jotun Majestic Shield or Dulux Bathroom+ for these applications. Children's rooms benefit from a scrubbable paint — Jotun Majestic Clean or Dulux Endurance — that withstands repeated wiping without losing sheen or adherence. Living room and bedroom walls where appearance rather than durability is the priority can use a standard emulsion in the appropriate finish level (flat for the highest quality appearance; soft sheen or silk for a slight sheen that helps with occasional cleaning).
Exterior painting of a UAE house is a more complex project than interior painting because it involves working at height, protecting the building from weather during the project, and selecting paint systems that will withstand UAE's most extreme outdoor conditions — UVI 12+ solar UV, surface temperatures reaching 65°C in summer, salt air in coastal properties and occasional heavy rain events.
