The technical requirements for a UAE walk-in shower installation: the entire floor area must be waterproofed with a tanking membrane applied in two coats before any tile adhesive or tiles are laid; the floor must slope uniformly to the drain at a gradient of 1:60–1:80 (enough to drain freely but not enough to feel sloped underfoot); a linear drain or wetroom drain must be installed at the correct floor level; and the shower mixer and head supply must deliver adequate flow at the temperature and pressure required without cooling the surrounding bathroom tiles excessively.

This requires floor supply connections that must be planned before floor screeding — retrofitting floor-supply connections in a tiled floor requires cutting channels in the screed and tiles, which is costly and disruptive. We always advise clients who plan a freestanding bath to confirm the decision before the bathroom floor is tiled, not after.

When a UAE alcove bath panel develops leaks at the waste fitting, the correct approach is waste fitting replacement with a fresh silicone seal — not a sealant bead over the outside of the panel which does not address the fitting failure.
