UAE apartment and villa walls present specific challenges for TV mounting. Most UAE residential walls are not standard drywall (plasterboard) as found in UK, US and Australian construction — they are solid concrete block or reinforced concrete walls covered with a plaster skim. Fixing a TV mount into solid concrete requires a hammer drill and masonry anchors rated for the TV's weight and the bracket's leverage — the torque exerted on wall fixings by a large TV hanging at the end of a bracket arm is substantial. Incorrectly anchored TV mounts — fixed into plaster only, using unsuitable plastic wall plugs or undersized anchors — can pull out of the wall when the TV is adjusted, causing injury and expensive damage to the TV.
We use Fischer or Hilti brand concrete anchors rated at minimum 4× the required load for all TV mounting work — a 40 kg TV on a bracket with 600mm extension exerts approximately 120 kg pull-out force on each fixing at maximum arm extension. We verify the fixing is into the structural concrete (not a hollow block cavity) using a concrete detector before drilling. All our TV mount installations include a load test before we leave — we apply the equivalent of 1.5× the TV weight to the bracket and verify zero movement.
A TV mounted without cable management — with HDMI cables, power cables and antenna feeds hanging from the back of the TV down the wall — looks untidy and increases the chance of cable damage. We provide three cable management options: surface-mounted cable trunking (a plastic channel fixed to the wall surface that conceals cables — AED 60–150 depending on run length); in-wall cable concealment (a cable chase cut into the wall plaster, cables run inside, replastered and painted — AED 400–800 depending on length and tile or wallpaper on the wall surface); and behind-wall cavity routing in properties with internal stud walls where cables can be fished through the wall cavity without any chase cutting.
